What is a Civil Funeral Ceremony?

A Civil Funeral Ceremony is conducted by a Celebrant.  The ceremony may also be called a Celebration of Life Ceremony.

Why would I choose a Celebrant to conduct the funeral?

When an independent funeral Celebrant creates a funeral ceremony, they do this with the deceased at the foremost of their mind.  The Celebrant will spend time with you, listening to your stories and tales of the person you have lost, finding their true personality.

What content can I have in a Civil Funeral Ceremony?

Your funeral ceremony can have lots of different elements - you can include photographs, live or recorded music*, poetry, readings, hymns, prayers and symbolic gestures*.  You can ask your guests to be involved in the ceremony or you may want the Celebrant to do all of it.  Your Celebrant will write and read a tribute or life story, that will tell the story of the deceased, allowing you to share their life with each other.

**There may be restrictions that will not allow for the of lighting candles or the inclusion of music with defamatory lyrics.

Why would I choose Ann Foley to be my Celebrant?

Arranging a funeral can be a very difficult and emotional time.  You have lost a person that you care deeply for and there is a lot of paperwork to deal with.  As a trained Funeral Celebrant based in Northamptonshire, I offer you a warm, understanding personality and you can be assured that you are in safe hands.

You may have clear ideas about the ceremony that you would like.  Alternatively, instructions may have been left.  It may be that you don’t know what you can have, or would like, in a ceremony.  In any case, working closely with you, I will create and deliver a civil funeral ceremony that captures the essence of the person you have lost. Their unique story will be told, and you will be able to celebrate and share the life that they have lived.

Whether you are creating a DIY funeral, working with a Funeral Director, scattering or interring ashes or holding a memorial service, I will work with you to deliver an appropriate ceremony that will reflect the individuality and values of the deceased.  The ceremony we create can include religious content or be completely secular.  I will help you find readings, poems and music that will enrich the ceremony, and reflect the values and beliefs of the deceased. Nothing will be included in a ceremony that you have not agreed to beforehand.
